About the author

David Barash (Ph.D., University of Wisconsin) is professor of psychology at the University of Washington, Seattle and is co-founder and co-director of the Peace and Strategic Studies program there. He has written over 160 technical articles and 12 books and has lectured (and protested) widely throughout the world. His original training was in evolutionary biology; since 1979 he has increasingly turned his professional attention to the question of peace. His books include Stop Nuclear War! A Handbook—nominated for the 1982 National Book Award—and The Caveman and the Bomb (both co-authored with his wife, Judith Eve Lipton, M.D.) He is also author of the textbook The Arms Race and Nuclear War (Wadsworth, 1987).
